You do have your set of “lucky” lottery numbers? The ones that are going to pop up on your state lottery website when you check it in the morning and launch you from rags to riches?
My mother has a lucky set of lottery numbers. As a matter of fact, she has several sets of lucky lottery numbers. My mother has so many sets of lottery numbers that she can’t afford to play every set every week. I have 2 sets I like to use, and then I have 5 more sets I’ll play when the jackpot gets really big.
“Mister,” you might say, “just pick a set and stick with it.”
To you, I say superstition is a very powerful thing. Superstition Law dictates that the moment I don’t play my “lucky” sets of numbers is when the balls I’ve been waiting to pop up all this time will make their debut.
All data suggests that the odds of your numbers being drawn are just as much a long shot when you don’t play as they are a long shot when you do. But that theory ignores the power of superstition – a code lottery players live by – so forget them!!
But that got me thinking. My mother and I suffer from the problem of having too many numbers. What if you’re one of those people who has no sets of numbers? You’re looking down and a blank lottery ticket ready to pencil in your choices, but you don’t know what to pick. What do you do? Where do you get your numbers from?
Some people answered this question in some very, very unusual ways, but these unconventional methods ended up winning fortunes. Let’s look at some of the unusual ways that lottery winners got the numbers that ultimately led to jackpots.
This first item is probably one that every self-respecting lottery addict has attempted: using the “lucky numbers” you are gifted with when you crack open a Chinese Fortune cookie. “Fortune” is in the name, so of course, you have to try it. Sadly for most of us, it doesn’t work. It’s at this point when we begin cursing under our breath at the machine that randomly picks these numbers purely for its novelty effect.
But in 2003, a fortune from a fortune cookie made the rounds during an upcoming Powerball jackpot. The same fortune cookie, deemed “lucky” for whatever reason, appeared in Chinese restaurants across the country and many people played the numbers on it.
Turns out that 110 people won a piece of the Powerball jackpot that year, most winning $100,000, and a few winning $500,000 because they played the multiplier. So many people won, in fact, that the lottery agency suspected foul play. Nope. It was the lucky Chinese Fortune cookie.
If you can’t come up with numbers yourself, why not consult with the spirits? An Australian woman had a sister who was into getting tarot card readings. Per the cards, this lady learned that one of her other sisters was to win the lottery, but which sister was not made clear. Turns out it was this Australian woman, who ended up winning $1.5 million, with help from some numbers that she got from a dream.
And in another instance, a Canadian woman who consulted with a tarot card reader received a set of numbers from the reader, scribbled on the back of that tarot reader’s business card. The woman made a change to one of the numbers she had received, and that little changed ended up netting her a $6.8 million jackpot.
I’ll save the best for last. A 19-year-old winner said he got his numbers from a most unusual source. He said that he was walking around all day and that a voice in his head was just giving him numbers. He noted that he never heard the voice before, so he didn’t recognize it. He said that he told his cousin about the voice offering numbers, and the cousin’s response was, “man that’s probably lottery numbers.”
So this 19-year-old went and played the numbers. He reported that after he played the numbers the voice went silent. Within a few hours of playing the numbers, he found out that he had won $35 million. He was asked later if he was surprised to find out he had won. He said, “No because I knew I was gonna win. How can you be surprised if you know something’s gonna happen?”
Personally, I stick with birthday numbers, which I guess is what everybody does. But so far my relatives have not proven to be as valuable as I would have liked. I don’t know if I’m ready to consult the spirits yet, but if one of you does win big using mystic forces, you just remember where you got the idea.
Thank you very much
